I'm not sure the aerodynamics of the Z06 would correspond so much to a difference in straight line speed.
What's the deal? Given how many 800HP GT-Rs are out there, it wouldn't surprise me if the GT-R is making closer to 650+ HP and is highly underrated from the factory, or the version Motortrend got at least.

I think the grip out of corners is really that good. If you follow Carlos's personal channel, he posts figure 8 sessions of all the cars he tests. The GT-R's was insane. Here are both, see how they actually compare:

The GT-R has the gearing advantage in a straight line. Shorter and closer ratios.
GT-R final drive:3.7
Z06:3.42
It really makes a huge difference.

Nah, the Vette just can't put it's power down.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
In his sessions with the 3 faster cars, Randy repeatedly complimented their ability to put power down out of the corners.

It's called a ringer. When you want a good review, you send a "pre-production" year model that is slightly better that the actual production model to the rags.
Manufacturers have been doing it for years. It used to be really obvious back in day, but it's more subtle now.

It lost the track contest due to the corner exit speeds and overall stability.

What do the top three cars have mostly in common?
Some sort of torque management system ( 918 can provide torque right up to the limit of grip, and ATTESA E-TS can do front to back and side-to-side torque vectoring)
DCT
Aero enhancements
Body control
The Viper has almost none of these, but is also as close as you can get to a street legal track car. It's also lighter still than the Z06, GT-R and 918. The Z has active body control, but it's clear that this isn't enough. The next step for chevy I think would be a torque vectoring diff and maybe some more weight reduction. A DCT would also be great, but that's not happening on a sub-six figure vette.
